CEO Action! Origami Buses

Creating a unique experience for guests is always a challenge in the advertising realm.  From performers, to handouts, to gimmicks and videos, agencies are always looking for a way to have guests remember the story they are trying to tell.  But instead of simply providing something for people, it is always better to find a way to let them engage with it on their own.  That is why origami is such a fantastic promotional tool, because not only do people have the opportunity to take something home, they also have a chance to create it themselves and feel a bit of ownership over the experience.  This creates a much longer lasting impression than usual.  Recently Taro’s Origami Studio was asked to do just that for the website CEO Action, a group dedicated to helping bring more diversity to the workplace.

CEO Action came to Taro’s Origami Studio with an idea for creating an origami version of their bus that people could fold themselves and take home.  Having created and designed several versions of buses in the past, the Taro’s Origami design team was able to take images of the bus and superimpose them onto paper that could be folded into a real life version.

As you can see in the model created, the Taro’s team also designed the model in a way that made the folding process as simple as possible and included all of the crease lines on the paper itself.  This way there was no need for additional folding directions like you’d see in an origami book.  The model is more like a simplified version of a crease pattern, where most of what you need to do to create the model is fold along the lines provided.

As a part of the project, the Taro’s Origami Staff also pre-folded over 100 of the buses so that people could not only see what the final project looked like, but also grab one if they were on the go and didn’t have time to fold one right away.  It also created a fun puzzle for guests if they wanted to take the model apart and see if they could put it back together.

Have a look at the model and our fleet of buses up close and see if you can imagine how the model has folded!
