Taro’s was invited to perform a giant origami folding demonstration and origami class for the famous French leather goods brand Longchamp in New York City. The event was for a new iteration of their classic “Le Pliage” bags produced in collaboration with Longchamp and Japanese design firm Nendo. “Le Pliage” actually means “folding” in French and was originally designed because of a trip to Japan with some origami inspiration, so Taro’s Origami was a natural fit for the event. The bags have simplistic folding cloth geometries–bound by minimal leather flaps–that make them easy to flatten and stow.
The first half of the presentation to a select group of fashion and design professionals with a brief explanation of the historical background of Origami by Frank Ling, and then followed it all up with Taro providing his exclusive live folding performance.
Then after Taro showed off his master of the artform, Frank and him taught a quick class with the attendees so that they could also learn a little origami to take home. Take a look below to see some more of Taro entertaining the guests of the event in Manhattan
